Eat the Cake!
Eat the Cake! Coming from a health coach?! Yes, you read correctly - eat, the, cake! Or the muffin, ice cream, pizza, whatever it is that your going to eat. Eat it with so much presence, peace, joy, and the knowing your body is capable of digesting it with ease.*
Most of us know in general that minimally processed foods would be better for our bodies to perform optimally and we can strive to make up most of our diet with those foods. But food is so much more than energy in & energy out. Food has always been tied around celebrations and can be a beautiful balance. It is ok to allow yourself to enjoy it to the fullest.
The energy you give to the foods you eat is just as important as the food itself. As you are eating and digesting, what you are thinking and feeling beforehand, impacts how your body assimilates that food. So if you are about to eat a piece of cake already feeling guilty, your digestion is going to work very differently than if we were to be excited and happy to enjoy each bite without guilt.
I spent a good part of my life worrying about every calorie in and every calorie out. I couldn't have any sweets in the house because that's all I'd think about and I couldn't have just a little. I had deprived myself so much that one bite meant soon I'd eat it all until it was gone within a day. This was not a healthy relationship with food. No foods are “forbidden” therefore, they have no power over me. As you balance your body, you can enjoy anything with moderation because there is no sense or scarcity or lack.
With so many years of programming regarding what foods are "good" and what foods are "bad", to eat intuitively takes practice. Your weight might fluctuate as you incorporate foods that were “forbidden” in the past, and for some that have had a lifetime of restriction; guidance through these physical and emotional stages can be helpful. This is where a health coach could assist you through getting a better relationship with food and your body image overall.
So I’m not saying to swap cake for more nutritious meals, but that if you’re going to eat the cake, be present, eat it with joy and your body will process it very differently than if you eat in a negative mindset. We want to find balance in living in a way that will make us feel our best.
Imagine the head and heart space that could open for you if you silenced the chatter regarding the food you eat?

*Any food allergies should be handled differently; knowing that you react to certain ingredients should be considered, but even food allergies do not have to be a life sentence. With guidance in healing the gut, you can reduce or remove completely those reactions.
